Computer Timelines on the 'Net

Reading Computer: A History of the Information Machine by Martin Campbell-Kelly and William Aspray can be a challenge at times. Many times throughout the book, the authors trace a certain development within the field of computing throughout a certain time period, but this means they must continually return to other areas to pick up where they left off and bring them up to speed as well. There is so much information involved in the development of the computer that the information cannot be presented in a single linear fashion, but rather it must be described in a series of steps. Therefore, I've searched the Internet for a couple of timelines that might present the data more graphically and all at once, rather than in the step-by-step, fragmented process found in the book. So far, a good one I've found that also includes some descriptions of topics mentioned in the book can be found at this site: http://inventors.about.com/library/blcoindex.htm.

So check it out, if you know of any other good ones, leave it as a comment to this blog. Thanks!

At least my Blog isn't the ONLY one out there!

So having created my own blog, I was told to take a look around on the vast world of the Internet for other blogs. Didn't turn out to be difficult - when I 'googled' the word blog, it returned upwards of 53 million hits...quite an impressive number. I didn't have to wade too far into those 53 million before I found one that I considered interesting. Before you fall out of your chair in anticipation of visiting this great site...here's the hyperlink: http://blogcritics.org.

Basically, a bunch of people - the blogcritics - who don't have much else to do with their spare time get together and post numerous blogs on a variety of subjects, ranging from the recent "Olympic Games in Athens" to "The Pros and Cons of a New Art Magazine." Apparently, they're so good, that they're even known by the title of "superior bloggers." If you want a random person's opinion on ANYTHING, then blogcritics is definitely the place to go!

Take some time, look around, find some blogs posted by one of over 500 "superior bloggers" on a subject that interests you. Perhaps you too might want to become a blogcritic!

Introduction to My CHS202 Weblog

Throughout this first semester here at Clemson University, I will periodically post thoughts, inspirations, and random musings to this blog regarding my Calhoun Honors Seminar (CHS H 202 300) class, Computers and Society. The class is taught at Clemson University by Professor Pamela Mack. Take some time to read through any postings that you may find and enjoy the site!
